Clutter
Clutter data is classified as the man-made and natural features that may impair radio frequency propagation by reflection, diffraction, absorption, or
scattering of the transmission waves. DMTI Spatial's Clutter Data has been developed for the Radio Frequency (RF) Propagation environment to help engineers refine their signal loss prediction models according to the characteristics of the underlying terrain and ground cover. In today's competitive market, the wireless telecommunication industry has been driven by the need to provide better service coverage while reducing infrastructure costs. The
solution lies in determining the optimum location of towers. |
Benefits:
- Enhance service coverage and reduce dropped calls
- Predict the performance of wireless services in transmission areas
- Plan the build or redesign of their network
- Optimize transmission site locations and reduce infrastructure costs
Mapping land cover data is critical to wireless network design because the surface cover affects propagation of the digital wireless signal. Engineers can
determine the optimum location for towers by integrating Clutter Data with surface elevation data (DEM), demand, electrical and physical attribute data,
and with propagation models on offer from leading RF Propagation software programs.
Digital Elevation Models
Developed for land management applications, the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) consists of an optimal array of ground elevations at regularly spaced
intervals. The continuous growth in the telecommunication and engineering industries has created a greater demand for terrain data. This data will allow
engineers to plan and manage all infrastructure growth with the accuracy required by new spatial applications.
Benefits:
- Conduct nationwide terrain modelling with seamless coverage
- Undertake cost-effective planning of networks and disaster management
- Optimize transmission tower locations when used with Clutter Data*
- High quality data based on the National Topographic Database
DEM data combined with DMTI Spatial's Clutter data is ideal for certain RF propagation applications such as wireless pager, microwave, PCS and other
wireless network planning. Also available on a custom basis, are hydrologically networked DEMs, which are ideal for flood plane analysis,
shoreline/embankment erosion analysis, or environmental modelling such as the mapping of effluents. DEM coverage is available by sheet (1:50,000 or
1:250,000) and custom defined areas such as along the Canadian/US Border or by Province. |
