The Unique Enhanced Postal Code File contains 819,547 (as of V6.3) six digit postal codes in Canada and provides a link to Statistics Canada’s standard census geographic boundaries. The UEP is more commonly used than the Multiple Enhanced Postal Code File as it allows for a 1:1 relationship (one postal code match to one postal code location).
The Six Digit Postal Code File is based on the Unique Enhanced Postal Code File, but does not contain the link to Statistics Canada’s standard census geographic areas. This file contains the postal code, longitude and latitude of each point, 1996 Census population and dwelling counts and the birth date and retire date of each postal code.
Unparsed Address
Addresses in a table may be contained all in one field (unparsed), or may be stored as individual components in multiple fields (parsed). An address that is unparsed might have the following components contained in a single field: street number, street name, street type, street direction, and apartment or suite number. Intersection locations (e.g. Yonge St && Bloor St W) are also considered unparsed. An address that is parsed is split into its individual components in multiple fields. These fields might include: street number, street name, street type, street direction, and apartment or suite number. Each of these address components will be contained within its own field in the table.
