The National Data Sharing Program primary focus is to serve Canadian Municipalities and Provinces by providing an opportunity to become a partner in a data sharing program that delivers measurable benefits to all program participants. This program is offered at no cost to local governments and is intended to help streamline data maintenance work flows, enrich existing data resources and improve connections to work with adjacent municipalities.

The National Data Sharing Program begins with an exploratory process by which DMTI Spatial (DMTI) and local municipalities and/or Provinces jointly ascertain the mutual value inherent in exchanging data with each other.

The initial proposition is to embark on a discovery phase with interested parties, potentially evolving into a long term partnership focused on shared data provisioning, maintenance and continuity of data updates, quality assurance and data standards, and future enhancement opportunities.

As an example of previous successful collaborations...of particular interest to existing Data Sharing Partners is the exchange of address points and street files for a given area (Municipality, Region, Province), and DMTI’s quality assurance error-proofing services.

Data files are integrated into DMTI’s expansive Location Hub (consisting of data from multiple sources such as Canada Post); files are scrubbed and a 2-tiered reporting system identifies and assists in the remedying of anomalies inherent in the data file. An enhanced version of this process is reciprocal error-proofing of datasets.

DMTI is recognized throughout Canada as the premier provider of Location Intelligence data products and professional services. As part of DMTI’s National Data Sharing Program there are a number of potential options that new partners can select from in exchange for their data, including access to and maintenance of DMTI product datasets such Platinum Postal Suite, CanMap© Street, and Route Logistics to name a few, specific to the partners geographic area. The driver of this option is the exchange value, as determined by both DMTI and their new partner.

DMTI currently enjoys Data Sharing partnerships with all levels of governments and municipalities across Canada as well as universities, commercial and private sector enterprises.
